So Close Yet So far

Have you ever felt so close to a goal like it's just an arms length away, like you can see it, and just need to grab it. But also feel so far from your goal like one wrong move can cause all the progress you’ve built to crumble down.

My Story

I’m a day trader or at least I'm trying to be one. At the time of writing this I am 11 months in my day trading journey and haven’t received any money from day trading. I feel so close to getting my first payout from day trading, I know what to do I just have to follow my rules and be patient.

I haven’t been doing that the past 10 months and the lack of progress shows that but this last month, June 2026, I’ve been consistent, disciplined, and patient and I've been getting results. I actually just passed my prop firm evaluation today which means I have a shot of getting a payout!

I feel so close to receiving my first payout from day trading like I can just envision myself being a full time trader, having my dream car, and living the life I want to live. But it also feels far like a distant dream, like one bad day can tear all this month's progress, like I still have a long time to get to where I want to be, and like this whole thing may not even be possible.

Learning to Trust the Process

I’m starting to realize that success doesn't usually happen all at once. Most people only see the moment someone makes it, but they never see the months or years of work that happened before that. They don't see the constant failures or the days they felt like no progress was being made.

That's where I am right now. I don't have the results I want yet, but I know I'm building the habits that will eventually get me there. Every day I follow my rules and every mistake I learn from is another step forward even if it feels like a step back.

Maybe I won't get my first payout this week. Maybe it won't even be this month. But it’s okay because I know I'm becoming the person who deserves the results I'm chasing. And if I keep becoming that person every day, the results will eventually catch up.

My dream life feels like a big boulder that I’m constantly pushing uphill and can’t see in front of and every wrong move I make, I slip and fall a little downhill. But I know eventually if I keep pushing I'll reach the top of the hill and the boulder, my dream life, will go down the hill smoothly without me pushing so hard.

What I'm trying to say is I don’t know when I’m going to reach success or my dream life, that's why my goals feel “so far”, but I know if I keep going and showing up everyday I will eventually live my dream life, hints why my goals feel “so close.”

Maybe your goal isn't day trading. Maybe it's starting a business, getting in shape, or chasing a career you've always wanted. Whatever it is, don't let the feeling of distance from your goals discourage you. If you keep showing up every day and trust the process, one day you'll look back and realize you were closer than you ever thought. Think about how far u were or felt about your goals a couple of months ago and much closer you feel today.
